The donor and recipient were a father and his son. The 32-year-old recipient had been diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease and had been undergoing dialysis three times a week.

After more than four hours of surgery, performed under the supervision and technical guidance of specialists from Viet Duc University Hospital, both the donor nephrectomy and the kidney transplant were completed successfully. The procedure further demonstrates the hospital's expertise in kidney transplant, one of the most advanced and technically demanding procedures in modern medicine. It also marks an important milestone for healthcare in Quang Ninh, offering treatment opportunity for patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease.
