As a locality with strong maritime advantages, Quang Ninh is gradually shaping a new development space in which urban areas, industry, tourism and logistics are closely linked to the marine economy.
Ha Long International Cruise Port was Vietnam’s first dedicated cruise port when it began operations in 2018. On average, the port receives around 60 international cruise ships each year, carrying nearly 100,000 passengers. In Quang Ninh’s future urban landscape, such maritime gateways will help shape a sea-oriented city with direct connections to international markets. Alongside tourism, cargo ports are creating another pillar of Quang Ninh’s marine economy.
From Cam Pha, Con Ong–Hon Net and Cua Ong to Hon Gai–Cai Lan, the port system is playing an increasingly important role in cargo transshipment, import and export activities and logistics connectivity. Under the detailed planning for the development of the land and water areas of Quang Ninh’s seaport system for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, cargo throughput is expected to reach 157 million tonnes by 2030. Quang Ninh also plans to upgrade and build between 54 to 60 berths, with total estimated investment exceeding VND 34.5 trillion.
