On August 24, at the closing session of the First Extraordinary Session of the 16th National Assembly, chaired by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the National Assembly voted to approve the Resolution on the establishment of Quang Ninh City.
With 100% of attending deputies voting in favour, the resolution was approved. Under the resolution, Quang Ninh City is established based on the entire natural area and population of Quang Ninh Province. The city borders Hai Phong City, Bac Ninh City, Lang Son Province, the People's Republic of China and the East Sea. The resolution will take effect on September 1, 2026.
