As reported by the management board of Ha Long Bay, there is a considerable drop in the quantity of tourists to this world heritage site as a consequence of COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, it is expected that Ha Long will have greeted 1.5 million tourist arrivals by the end of 2020, showing a 65.9 percent decrease in comparision to the data of the previous year. Of which, there are only 400 thousand foreign tourists.
Under the program to stimulate tourism demands and promote domestic tourists, more than 200,000 visitors including approximatedly 6,500 ones taking flights at the international airport of Van Don have been offered free tickets to visit Ha Long Bay.
In 2021, the tourism market is predicted to still be affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Quang Ninh province will take constant efforts to adopt preventive measures and effectively implement stimulus programs in the hope that the number of visitors to Ha Long Bay is likely to increase by 30% compared to 2020 mainly in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
