Attractive night-time museum experience

After a day exploring tourist attractions and entertainment venues, visitors looking for a different kind of experience, one that is relaxing yet rich in cultural depth, may find the “Night at the Museum - A Heritage Journey” tour at the Quang Ninh Museum a worthwhile addition to their Ha Long itinerary.

One of the first things that makes the night-time museum experience special is the distinctive atmosphere of entering the exhibition spaces as the city lights come on. Through guided interpretation, QR-code content, lighting and sound effects, and carefully designed multimedia presentations, the visit becomes more engaging and accessible. Visitors can take their time discovering stories about Quang Ninh’s natural environment, islands and seas, the mining area, local history, and the cultural heritage of the province’s ethnic communities.

If the museum serves as a repository of Quang Ninh’s memory during the day, it transforms at night into a stage where heritage stories are told in a more immersive and exploratory way. As such, the experience is well suited to families with children, pupils and students, groups of young travellers interested in check-in, and visitors who prefer a slower-paced journey to gain a deeper understanding of the destination, especially those visiting Quang Ninh for the first time.

Beyond the guided tour, the Provincial Museum - Library further enriches the experience through its “Reading Among the Wonders” cultural reading space. More than 2,200 book titles covering topics such as children's literature, history and culture, life skills, literature, entrepreneurship, and business are available in an open setting. The space also hosts reading activities, storytelling sessions, drawing workshops, fairy-tale role-playing, and interactive programmes for children, students, and visitors.

A variety of engaging activities are regularly organized, enhancing the appeal of the "Night at the Museum" experience.

Alongside reading activities, evening experiences at the museum may also be complemented by a range of cultural and artistic programmes, depending on the schedule. These can include film screenings, cultural performances, traditional music, dance performances, puppet shows, children's films, documentaries, and productions introducing Quang Ninh’s culture and tourism.

Drawing on its experience in organising activities such as folk painting exhibitions, Dong Ho woodblock printing workshops, traditional woodblock stamping on do paper, and exchanges with artists and artisans, the museum has favourable conditions to further develop the night tour into an attractive cultural destination. Through these activities, visitors can experience the museum not only as a place that preserves memories, but also as a creative space that promotes and shares heritage values.

Another notable feature is that the product is not designed as a standalone attraction. Under the pilot development plan, the night-time cultural and tourism product is linked with a broader coastal public space cluster that includes the Provincial Museum - Library, the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center, and October 30 Square. As a result, after visiting the museum, tourists can continue reading, watching performances or film screenings, and then enjoy a leisurely walk along the waterfront while admiring Ha Long’s iconic landmarks illuminated at night.
