Cai Bau Pagoda, also known as Truc Lam Giac Tam Zen Monastery, is considered to be one of the most beautiful coastal temples in Quang Ninh owing to its pristine beauty and poetic scenery.
Located on the mountains in Ha Long commune in Van Don district, Cai Bau pagoda - Giac Lam zen monastery overlooks the bay of Bai Tu Long bay with thousands of stunning islets. The place used to witness victories of great heroes in the past.
This pagoda was rebuilt on the base of Phuc Linh Tu Pagoda 700 years ago with the total investment capital of VND 24 billion from the donation of individuals and organizations.
The space in this attraction appears to be not only peaceful but also sacred and pure. Blending with the bell voice, chanting and the gong sound is wave echo that brings people a sense of calm and stillness.
Its architecture reflects the typical features of a Vietnamese conventional pagoda. However, it becomes unique due to the extraordinary position with its back against the mountain and the sea front.
Particularly, most work of order and security in the pagodas is well implemented by Buddhists and nuns. For the sake of preserving the Buddhist sanctuary, no one is allowed to sell souvenirs in the pagoda’s campus. Tourists who want to enjoy vegetarian meals and stay overnight here do not have to pay any money as well.
The festival of Cai Bau pagoda annually organized from the 1st to 3rd month of the lunar year, or from February to April, often lures thousands of locals and tourists.
This pagoda is 10 kilometers far from the centre of Van Don, hence visitors can go there by private vehicles or by bus. It also takes tourists only about 90 minutes to travel from the city of Ha Long to this place.
