Turning electric vehicle service into a tourism product

In the coastal tourism hub of Bai Chay, four-wheeled electric vehicles are being developed into a distinctive tourism offering, providing visitors with a convenient and eco-friendly way to travel between attractions.

In January 2026, the Ha Long Electric vehicle Club was officially launched and joined the Quang Ninh Tourism Association, marking a shift from spontaneous operations to a more structured and professional model. The club currently brings together six businesses operating around 170 electric vehicles in Bai Chay. Among them, Cong Thanh Investment Joint Stock Company runs its own operating station and manages around 80 drivers working under strict operational procedures.

A key advantage of Quang Ninh Province is that electric vehicles are allowed to operate throughout the entire Bai Chay tourism area, rather than being restricted to certain locations as in many other cities. This creates favourable conditions to develop electric vehicles as a convenient sightseeing option, linking beaches, entertainment venues, restaurants, cruise terminals and other service facilities.

When professionally organized, electric vehicles do more than simply transport passengers — they become part of the travel experience. Businesses within the club are developing one- to two-hour city tours with guided commentary. They are also introducing app-based booking systems with transparent pricing and travel information, along with GPS-based digital audio guides. This combination of electric vehicles, smart technology and automated commentary is gradually shaping electric vehicles into a smart tourism product.

All vehicles are equipped with speed-limit devices capped at 30 km per hour in accordance with regulations, ensuring safe operation within the tourism zone. Each vehicle can carry up to eight passengers, helping reduce the number of private vehicles and easing traffic congestion during peak seasons.

Amid the growing trend of green tourism, electric vehicles have additional advantages as they help reduce private vehicle traffic and limit emissions. With improved management mechanisms, well-planned routes and stopping points, along with continued coordination among operators, this service can be further developed into a green tourism product that meet short-distance travel needs while allowing visitors to explore the coastal city at a more relaxed pace.
