On July 7, as part of a working visit to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China), Quang Ninh’s delegation led by Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee Bui Van Khang, undertook a series of activities aimed at strengthening economic, trade, investment, and friendship cooperation between the two localities.
A highlight of the visit was the bilateral talks between Bui Van Khang and Wei Tao, Chairman of the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. During the meeting, Chairman Wei Tao affirmed that Quang Ninh remains Guangxi's most important local partner, yielding the highest cooperation efficiency. He highly valued the substantive cooperation between the two localities in trade, investment, people-to-people exchanges, border gate management, tourism, and cooperation of border localities. In response, Chairman Bui Van Khang emphasized that Quang Ninh and Guangxi stands out as a bright spot in Vietnam–China subnational cooperation, with bilateral two-way trade turnover exceeding USD 4.3 billion. Quang Ninh is currently has 131 FDI projects invested by Chinese enterprises, with a total registered capital of nearly USD 6.5 billion.
During the talks, the two sides signed the minutes of the talks, agreeing to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation in border management, transport connectivity, trade, investment, and logistics. On this occasion, the leaders of the two localities also witnessed the signing of five cooperation agreements between departments, sectors, and local authorities of the two sides.
Also on July 7, in Nanning, China, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province, in coordination with the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, held the 2026 Quang Ninh–Guangxi Business Connectivity Conference. The event was attended by 150 enterprises from the two sides, including 40 from Quang Ninh Province. Addressing the conference, Chairman Bui Van Khang affirmed that the flourishing Vietnam–China relations offer fertile ground for both provinces to scale up economic ties.
Lu Xinning, Vice Chairman of the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, added that the ongoing joint efforts to develop the Dongxing–Mong Cai Cross-Border Economic Cooperation Zone and the Smart Border Gate will create new momentum for cooperation in trade, investment, and logistics.
During the event, enterprises from both sides participated in business matching and signed 11 memoranda of understanding, cooperation agreements, and economic contracts covering logistics, border infrastructure investment, agricultural and seafood trade, and tourism development.
Concluding the working trip, the Quang Ninh delegation visited the Vietnam Duc Tai School Historical Site in Nanning city. In 1951, based on an agreement between Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong, Vietnam established a revolutionary cadre training school in Nanning, initially named the Nanning Guangxi Yutai School. Between 1951 and 1958, the school trained nearly 7,000 Vietnamese students and cadres before they returned to Vietnam to continue their work.
Chairman Bui Van Khang expressed his appreciation for the Guangxi authorities' efforts to preserve and promote the historic site, describing it as not only a "red landmark" of special significance in the revolutionary history of the two countries, but also a vivid symbol of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China. He also proposed that Guangxi University further strengthen cooperation with Ha Long University in human resource development, faculty and student exchanges, scientific research, foreign language training, and other areas of mutual strength, to meet the development needs of both localities.
