On the afternoon of June 30, the closing and awards ceremony of the 2026 International Open Chess Tournament was held at the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center.
The tournament marked the opening event of the 3rd Quang Ninh International Chess Tournament, bringing together more than 140 players from 21 countries and territories. It provided a high-level competitive platform for both Vietnamese and international players.
Following a series of intense and exciting matches, in the Master category (for players with an international Elo rating of 2,000 or above), Grandmaster Dau Khuong Duy (Vietnam) and Grandmaster Banh Gia Huy (Vietnam) won the gold and silver medal respectively, while Grandmaster Visakh (India) secured the bronze medal.
In the women's category, Mu Wangxueyao (China) won the gold medal, Nguyen Hong Nhung (Vietnam) took silver medal, and Latifah Laysa (Indonesia) earned the bronze medal.
Beyond offering players a chance to compete, gain experience and improve their international Elo ratings, the tournament also helped promote Quang Ninh as a destination for world-class mind sports events.
The 3rd Quang Ninh International Chess Tournament Series will continue with the Grandmaster/International Master (GM/IM) Tournament, to be held from July 1 to July 7.
