Under a recent decision of the Ministry of Health approving adjustments to the healthcare facility network plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, Vietnam–Sweden Uong Bi Hospital will be one of 17 provincial general hospitals designated to perform regional functions.
The hospital will serve as a regional healthcare institution for the Red River Delta, together with several other provincial general hospitals, helping improve access to specialized healthcare services for people in the region. It will also provide professional guidance and technical support to healthcare facilities across the region and take on regional response roles in the event of epidemics or disasters. Vietnam–Sweden Uong Bi Hospital is currently one of Quang Ninh's four highly specialized hospitals, with a wide range of advanced and modern medical techniques being performed on site. Most recently, the hospital successfully carried out kidney and cornea transplants.
