On January 26, 2026, the Prime Minister approved a pilot project to develop a smart border gate at the Mong Cai (Vietnam)–Dongxing (China) international border crossing.
The pilot will be carried out in two phases, beginning in 2026 and running through 2030, with completion scheduled for December 31, 2030. Leveraging digital technologies and artificial intelligence, Quang Ninh Province and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will jointly study the development of cross-border facilities to support smart border operations.
Quang Ninh will further invest in related infrastructure, including the Bac Luan II Logistics Park, e-commerce centers, import–export facilities and logistics warehouses. The initiative is expected to serve as a national model and advance Quang Ninh’s goal of becoming a modern logistics and cross-border trade hub in northern Vietnam.
