On June 26, in Hanoi, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh signed Decision No. 1026 recognizing Quang Ninh Province as meeting the criteria for a class I urban area.
According to the decision, the recognition covers the entire administrative area of Quang Ninh Province, with a natural area of 6,231.27 square kilometres and a population of 1,523,400 in 2025. The decision took effect on June 26, 2026.
The recognition reflects the determination and concerted efforts of Quang Ninh's political system, business community and people in implementing development strategies to build modern, integrated infrastructure, promote sustainable urban development and improve people's quality of life.
