On December 19, the project to build a high-end integrated tourism and services complex was launched by the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh, in partnership with Sun Group in the Van Don Economic Zone.
The project is among Quang Ninh’s key strategic developments and forms part of a nationwide programme of major projects commenced and inaugurated in celebration of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, underscoring strong national momentum for investment and growth.
Van Don has been identified by the Central Government and Quang Ninh province as a strategically important development space, envisioned as a new growth engine and a premier hub for high-end tourism and integrated services, closely linked to the marine economy and international integration.
Provincial development orientations aim to position Van Don as a next-generation economic zone of regional and global standing, with a focus on world-class tourism, entertainment, cultural industries including casino operations and premium island and marine tourism services.
The Van Don Economic Zone has recently benefited from synchronized infrastructure investment, improving institutional frameworks, and the attraction of large-scale anchor projects, creating a solid platform for long-term, sustainable development.
The commencement of this project marks a significant milestone, opening a new phase in the development of a strategically important complex for both Van Don and Quang Ninh Province. It also reflects strong investor confidence and the growing attractiveness of Vietnam’s and Quang Ninh’s investment environment.
Approved in principle by the Prime Minister, the project has been carefully evaluated for its strategic alignment, socio-economic effectiveness, national defense and security considerations, and consistency with national, regional, and provincial master plans. With a total investment of over USD 2 billion and a development area exceeding 244 hectares, the project is designed as a modern, integrated destination. It will comprise a premium resort and entertainment complex with gaming, international-standard event facilities, luxury hotels and resorts, villas, commercial and office spaces, conference and exhibition centers, as well as high-quality sports, entertainment, and wellness facilities.
Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly diversify Vietnam’s tourism offerings, enhance service quality, and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the international tourism and investment landscape. The casino component is scheduled to be operational by 2028, with full completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2034.
The development is envisioned to become the first large-scale “resort city” in Northern Vietnam, attracting substantial visitor flows from Northeast Asia and the domestic market, while generating strong spillover effects for trade, services, logistics, real estate, employment, and fiscal revenues.
The project also plays a pivotal role in completing the development ecosystem of the Van Don Economic Zone, serving as a key strategic component within the province’s long-term growth vision. It stands as a clear demonstration of Quang Ninh’s commitment to creating an open, transparent, and competitive investment environment, and to partnering with investors in delivering sustainable, high-value projects of regional and international significance.
