Enhancing Quang Ninh's appeal to domestic tourists

Every peak summer tourism season, Quang Ninh welcomes millions of tourist arrivals from across Vietnam seeking holidays, sightseeing and experiences. The large domestic tourist flow not only brings vitality to destinations, but also creates room for Quang Ninh’s tourism sector to diversify products, expand experiential spaces and pursue sustainable development.

This summer, tourists are increasingly extending their stays and spending more time exploring Quang Ninh’s tourism offerings. Instead of concentrating on a single destination, many families and groups of tourists have chosen two- or three-day holidays combining relaxation, sightseeing, entertainment, local cultural experiences and culinary exploration. Their itineraries have also expanded from Ha Long to localities such as Van Don, Co To, Binh Lieu, Dong Trieu and Yen Tu, helping distribute tourist flows across more areas of the province.

Nguyen Thuy Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “Since 2024, my family has visited Quang Ninh five times because transport is easy and convenient to travel here, and there are always new tourism products to explore. Although we visited Ha Long on all our previous trips, we returned this time because of the night market and fireworks displays. Moreover, all members of my family enjoy Quang Ninh seafood, so we chose to stay for one night in Hong Gai to explore more of the local culture and cuisine.”

Demand for short trips and weekend holidays among residents of major urban areas such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong and Hung Yen continues to rise. The increasingly comprehensive transport infrastructure, including an integrated expressway network, has significantly shortened travel times, making it easier for tourists to plan two-day, one-night or three-day, two-night trips to Quang Ninh. At the same time, the renewal and development of tourism products have helped the province attract not only first-time tourist arrivals, but also repeat visitors returning to experience new products and destinations.

Summer is also the peak season for MICE tourism, as many businesses, corporations and agencies organise holidays and incentive programmes combined with team-building activities for their employees. Many groups number between 1,000 and 2,000 people, providing a large and stable source of visitors for destinations across Quang Ninh.

Nguyen Van Hieu, General Director of Vitamin Tours and Event, said: “We have recently welcomed a steady stream of MICE groups visiting Quang Ninh, with some groups exceeding 1,000 people, mainly from corporations and companies in the northern and central regions. Visitors have particularly enjoyed several itineraries featuring Hong Gai cultural experiences with traditional rituals at Tran Quoc Nghien Temple, heritage cultural spaces in Yen Tu, and agricultural tourism in Dong Trieu and Binh Lieu.”

In the first half of 2026, Quang Ninh welcomed more than 12.4 million tourist arrivals, including around 9.8 million with domestic tourist arrivals, who continued to account for the majority of arrivals and contributed significantly to the tourism sector’s total revenue of nearly VND 35.2 trillion.
