Expressways and airports: Driving forces behind Quang Ninh's development

With the vision that transport infrastructure must lead the way and serve as a driving force for development, Quang Ninh has evolved from its first expressway into the modern and integrated transport network. The province is not only moving faster, but also looking further ahead as it builds a new centrally governed city – a city of connectivity, integration and growth.

Driven by a spirit of innovation, self-reliance and a strong aspiration to develop Vietnam’s northeastern frontier, Quang Ninh inaugurated the Ha Long–Van Don Expressway just four months after its first expressway was put into operation. The province also inaugurated two major transport infrastructure projects – Ha Long International Cruise Port and Van Don International Airport. With the Van Don–Mong Cai Expressway put into operation on September 1, 2022, Quang Ninh became the province with the longest expressway network, stretching 176 kilometres and accounting for 16% of the country's total expressway length at the time. The combination of expressways, airports and seaports has given Quang Ninh an advantage that few localities can match, providing fast road connections, convenient air travel and seamless links to a modern seaport system. From its first expressway to today's integrated transport network, Quang Ninh has demonstrated a consistent development strategy: using infrastructure to attract investment and connectivity to drive economic growth.
