A journey through Vietnamese cultural space

Amid the vibrant tourism hub of Hong Gai Ward, visitors can now discover a new cultural experience that offers far more than sightseeing and photo opportunities. Here, travellers are invited to slow down, uncover the stories of history and heritage, and truly immerse themselves in the rich Vietnamese cultural traditions of this historic land on the shores of Ha Long Bay.

Launched in late June, "Hong Gai – A Cultural Experience Journey" is a new tourism product developed by Hong Gai Ward as an immersive heritage route linking the area's historical sites, cultural landmarks, spiritual attractions, scenic landscapes and community life.

The route connects Tran Quoc Nghien Temple, the Bai Tho Mountain Historical and Cultural Complex, and the Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu – Cau May cultural and spiritual complex, nestled between Hong Gai's urban centre and the spectacular Ha Long Bay. Designed as an immersive cultural route, it takes visitors through some of Hong Gai's most distinctive heritage and cultural landmarks, revealing the rich cultural layers shaped by both the sea and the mountains.

Beyond sightseeing, the journey is further enriched by the "Seven Rhythms of the Vietnamese Soul" cultural space - a stopover where visitors can rest, enjoy traditional tea while discovering Vietnamese calligraphy, traditional costumes, ethnic musical instruments, handicrafts and local specialties. Each booth tells its own story, allowing visitors to see, listen, experience and interact directly with local artisans.

One of the highlights of the journey is the introduction and carefully curated re-enactment of traditional rituals at Tran Quoc Nghien Temple. In the solemn atmosphere of the Phuong Dinh yard, the sounds of drums, gongs and ceremonial chants offer visitors a deeper insight into local spiritual traditions. Presented without theatrical embellishment or commercialisation, the ritual retains its sacred character while helping visitors understand the Vietnamese tradition of honouring ancestors and praying for peace, favourable weather and prosperity.

The journey also connects visitors with nearby attractions and scenic sites, enriching their travel experience.

Moving past the solemnity of the historic sites and rituals, the journey opens up another tranquil retreat at Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu – Cau May. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Bai Tho Mountain, Ha Long Bay, pine forests and the urban landscape overlooking the World Heritage site. Visitors can explore the Ngu Phuong Bao Thap, enjoy meditation tea, experience singing bowl meditation, take part in floating lantern meditation, watch the sunset and capture memorable photographs. It is a peaceful moment to relax, reflect and discover a quieter, more contemplative side of Hong Gai beyond the pace of everyday urban life.
