Strengthening market connections and diversifying tourism products to attract Chinese visitors

As part of its strategy to expand international markets, China continues to be identified as a key source market for Quang Ninh’s tourism sector. Through a series of promotional initiatives, Quang Ninh is actively reconnecting with the market, diversifying tourism products and improving visitor experiences, aiming for sustainable growth and reinforcing its position as a leading destination in the region.

In April, a Quang Ninh’s delegation carried out a series of tourism promotion activities in Beijing and Shanghai, two of China’s most dynamic cities, to further tap into this highly promising international market. The delegation introduced Quang Ninh tourism to more than 200 Chinese travel companies. Beyond destination promotion, Quang Ninh also presented a comprehensive picture of its well-developed tourism infrastructure, attractive incentive policies, and particularly the the depth of value offered by the “One Journey, Two Heritage Destinations” program.

A notable highlight of the promotion programme was a working session with Adora Cruises. This is considered a strategic step toward effectively tapping into the cruise tourism segment, which is known for stable and high-spending visitors.

Mr. Chen Ranfeng, CEO of Adora Cruises, said: “We are looking for a suitable long-term docking location in Vietnam. In our assessment, Quang Ninh is highly suitable, especially as the province has created favourable conditions in recent years for cruise lines from Beihai, Hainan and Guangzhou to bring visitors here. By the end of August, we plan to bring China’s largest cruise ship to Ha Long International Cruise Port with more than 5,000 passengers.”

Beyond welcoming cruise visitors, Quang Ninh also aims to become a strategic transit hub for Vietnamese travellers exploring the world by sea. Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized that with its modern and synchronised transport and tourism infrastructure, Quang Ninh would serve as a bridge connecting closely with major Chinese localities such as Shanghai and Guangdong, thereby helping form diverse and attractive international sea tourism routes. In 2026, the province is expected to welcome more than 90 international cruise ships.

Alongside market promotion, Quang Ninh is also focusing on expanding cooperation at the local level. With the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, both sides agreed to continue further streamline procedures, creating favourable conditions for travel businesses, and strengthening coordination in organising cross-border tours on the Mong Cai - Dongxing route.

According to forecasts, in 2026, the number of Chinese visitors to Quang Ninh could reach between 850,000 and 1 million arrivals, an increase of around 15 - 20 per cent compared to 2025.
