With its natural advantages, increasingly synchronised tourism infrastructure and experience in organising large-scale events, Quang Ninh is gradually affirming its position as a leading destination for events of international stature.
In August, Quang Ninh became more vibrant as it was selected as the starting point for the Miss World 2026 series of activities in Vietnam. Miss Japan Yui Kawana said: “I am truly impressed by the way Quang Ninh has prepared for the Miss World 2026 contestants. Everything has been very carefully organised while still creating a comfortable atmosphere, from accommodation and transportation to experiential activities during the first days of the competition. We have always received timely and thoughtful support, allowing us to fully enjoy our time here. I think that is very important when a locality hosts a major international event such as Miss World. Quang Ninh will certainly leave a positive impression on the contestants and become a destination that many international tourists want to explore.”
In recent years, Quang Ninh has also become a familiar destination for sports enthusiasts from Vietnam and abroad. Many tournaments are held annually or periodically, attracting large numbers of athletes and tourists. Notable running events include VnExpress Marathon Amazing Ha Long, Halong Bay Heritage Marathon, Aqua Warriors Halong Bay, Amata Run and Yen Tu Heritage Marathon. In addition, events such as International Yoga Day, the Quang Ninh International Open Chess Tournament and the Ha Long 2026 International Dancesport Championship continue to create spaces for cultural and sporting exchanges, strengthen community connections and promote Quang Ninh as a destination.
Assessing Quang Ninh’s appeal, Honorary Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Business in Vietnam (KOCHAM) Hong Sun said: “I am particularly impressed by Quang Ninh’s natural landscapes and its transport and tourism infrastructure. The locality has many favourable conditions for hosting large-scale events. Among them, the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon is a notable event, particularly for the running community and South Korean investors, as it harmoniously combines sport, culture and tourism. It is also a good opportunity to widely promote the image of Quang Ninh and Vietnam to international tourists and friends, thereby helping expand the South Korean tourist market to Quang Ninh and Vietnam, while strengthening exchanges and promoting the distinctive cultural values of the two countries.”
In early August, Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, FLC Group and the Organising Committee of the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) jointly held a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding on preparations towards hosting the 2027 WAGC World Final in Quang Ninh.
According to the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Ngoc Thanh, studying the possibility of hosting the 2027 WAGC World Final is not only intended to ensure the successful organisation of an international sporting event, but also represents a concrete step towards realising the strategy of developing the sports economy in association with tourism, the event economy and cultural industries; expanding international cooperation; and attracting high-spending tourists, investors and the global business community.
The professional and successful organisation of international events is a way for Quang Ninh to bring its destination image closer to tourists, expand into new markets and create further momentum for the continuous renewal of tourism products and services. This makes an important contribution to the development of the tourism sector in particular and the province’s socio-economic development in general in the new period.
