Quang Ninh holds a strategic position in trade connectivity between Vietnam, China and ASEAN. Building on this advantage, together with an increasingly synchronised system of border gates, seaports and transport infrastructure, the province is implementing a range of measures and policies to promote import-export activities, logistics and the border trade economy.
On February 11, 2026, Quang Ninh province of Vietnam and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China held a ceremony to launch construction of the Mong Cai–Dongxing Smart Border Gate. Under the project, biometric identification technology, automated control gates, and autonomous, unmanned cargo transport vehicles operating on a 5G platform will be deployed, moving towards 24/7 cross-border transport.
The Quang Ninh Economic Zone Authority is currently working actively with the Chinese side to soon upgrade the Bac Phong Sinh–Li Huo and Hoanh Mo–Dong Zhong border market pairs from border market points to border market zones. Following the upgrade, the “vehicles go directly to the destination” customs clearance model will be applied, allowing Vietnamese cargo vehicles engaged in trade through the paired border markets to travel directly to designated supervision and management locations within the border trade zones.
From modernising smart border gates and expanding trade space to synchronised investment in logistics infrastructure and international connectivity, Quang Ninh is gradually turning its locational advantages into practical competitiveness.
