Spreading love for homeland through threads of pink yarn

Choosing to leave behind a stable teaching career, Do Thuy Linh, a 32-year-old woman born in the sacred Yen Tu land, embarked on a bold entrepreneurial journey by establishing a crochet workshop right in her small home. At the foot of Mount Yen Tu, her workshop glows with creativity, where Linh and other Dao Thanh Y women spend their days weaving threads of pink yarn with each stitch carrying love for their homeland and country.

The delicate pink threads from Linh’s crochet workshop not only breathe local culture into each handcrafted piece but also create sustainable livelihoods for disadvantaged workers, helping Vietnamese handicrafts reach the global stage.

Do Thuy Linh carefully selects her materials in order to ensure each product is durable, beautiful, and safe. She prioritizes premium yarns that are soft, non-fraying, lint-free, and environmentally friendly as well as safe for users.

Once an English teacher, Linh decided in 2019 to step away from the classroom and found Linhs Crochet Co., Ltd., a company specializing in handmade yarn products, marking the beginning of her personal journey to “weave dreams into reality.”

With the desire to take her products beyond the “village bamboo fence,” Linh began her online business journey using just her phone and personal computer. Every day, she livestreams and films videos showcasing her handmade creations right at her workshop, then shares them on platforms such as Facebook and Zalo.

The year 2021 marked a major turning point for the young woman from Quang Ninh, as her products were selected by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to be showcased at the Handicraft Fair for the 31st SEA Games. In 2023, Linh’s crochet creations were honored by the Vietnam Anti-Counterfeiting Technology Center as one of the Top 10 Trusted National Brands, reaching international markets such as the UK, France, Germany, the United States, and Australia.

From his admiration for Linh’s exquisite embroidered and crocheted creations, first discovered through a gifted item, Lukasz Kopec (40, from Germany) traveled to Yen Tu in August 2025 to learn embroidery alongside Dao Thanh Y women, immersing himself in the beauty of Vietnamese culture through every stitch and thread.

The differences in language and culture could not stop Lukasz Kopec from joyfully experiencing crochet making alongside the local women.

For Lukasz Kopec, the trip to Yen Tu was an unforgettable memory. What he brought back to Germany was not only handmade crochet gifts, adorable stuffed animals and a bright red flag with a golden star, but also the warmth, hospitality, and cultural beauty of Vietnam. “I want to bring these products home so that more Germans can know about and fall in love with this wonderful country,” shared Lukasz Kopec.

“In the early days, everything felt unfamiliar, but thanks to Linh’s patient guidance, I gradually became a skilled crochet artisan with a stable income. Crafting the national flags and Party flags that tourists love, and seeing them exported to many countries, brings us joy, pride, and motivation to cherish life even more" - shared Vu Thi Mang (far left, 71 years old).

Do Thuy Linh’s L&T Crochet Workshop provides stable employment for more than 50 vulnerable and elderly workers, with an average monthly income of VND 3-5 million per person. Linh also actively connects with crochet club members in Hanoi and Thai Nguyen, sharing experiences to expand creative models and promote the cultural value of Vietnam’s traditional handicrafts.

Do Thuy Linh’s workshop produces around 1,500 handmade items each month. In addition to exports, her products are also sold at many popular tourist destinations across Vietnam. Among them, the most beloved are traditional áo dài dolls and stuffed animals holding the national flag, which beautifully showcase Vietnamese culture and pride.
