Quang Ninh delegation meets UNESCO World Heritage Centre in South Korea

On the fourth day of the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in South Korea, Quang Ninh’s Vice-chairman Nguyen Van Cong held a working session with representatives of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and experts from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to discuss the management, conservation and promotion of the values of the Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago World Heritage Site.

On behalf of the authorities of Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city, the Vice Chairman briefed the World Heritage Centre and IUCN on the results of the management and protection of the inter-provincial Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago World Heritage Site since UNESCO approved the extension of its boundaries in 2023, as well as progress in implementing the consultancy and recommendations of the Reactive Monitoring Mission since March 2025.

Expressing her pleasure at the results achieved by the two localities in coordinating the management and protection of the Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago World Heritage Site, Head of the Asia and the Pacific Unit at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre Hilmachuli Gurung and IUCN experts highly valued the commitment of the two localities to implement integrated heritage management. She emphasized that this model deserved global recognition and should be shared across the World Heritage network. The World Heritage Centre and IUCN stand ready to coordinate with and provide professional and technical support to Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, accompanying the two localities in protecting the World Heritage Site for sustainable development.
