These days, across the province, from bustling downtown avenues, industrial parks and seaports to mountainous, border and island communes, the prevailing sentiment is sheer excitement over the Party Central Committee’s approval in principle for Quang Ninh to become a centrally governed city.

That joy is firmly rooted by concrete achievements. For many consecutive years, Quang Ninh has consistently maintained a top-tier position in nationwide economic growth. In 2026, the province aims for a growth of 13%, a per capita GRDP of at least USD 11,800 and a total budget revenue of around VND 100 trillion. In the first six months of this year alone, GRDP growth was estimated at 11.11%, keeping Quang Ninh firmly among the country’s fastest-growing localities.

Beyond economic strides, Quang Ninh has also emerged as a leading locality in administrative reform, digital transformation, investment attraction, tourism development and improvements in education, healthcare and people’s living standards. These results have laid a solid foundation for Quang Ninh to fully meet the conditions and criteria required to become a centrally governed city.
