On January 3, or the 15th day of the 11th lunar month, the statue installation ritual and inauguration ceremony of the Temple dedicated to King Le Thai To were solemnly held in Hoanh Bo ward. The event marked the completion of a key component of the project on the restoration, expansion, and promotion of the historical and cultural values of the temple of King Le Thai To.
Attending the ceremony were provincial leaders, including Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Ninh province, Quang Minh Cuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province Vu Quyet Tien, along with representatives of departments, agencies, local authorities, the Le Family Council, and a large number of local residents and visitors.
Located in An Bien 2 area, Hoanh Bo ward, the temple of King Le Thai To was originally built in the late 15th century. It is the only temple in Quang Ninh province dedicated to Duc Thai To Cao Hoang De Le Loi, the national hero who led the Lam Sơn Uprising and founded the Later Le Dynasty-one of the most illustrious dynasties in Vietnamese history. The temple also honors two outstanding national heroes, Nguyen Trai and Le Lai, whose loyalty, sacrifice, and wisdom remain enduring symbols of Vietnamese patriotism.
In 2003, the temple was officially recognized as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic. Over centuries marked by historical upheavals, wars, and the passage of time, the structure suffered repeated damage and deterioration. Although it was restored in 1999, after more than 25 years of use, its scale and condition no longer met the growing cultural, spiritual, and religious needs of the public.
In order to preserve and promote the site’s heritage values in association with the development of cultural and spiritual tourism, Quang Ninh province has invested in a comprehensive cluster of projects surrounding the temple of King Le Thai To. The overall project covers more than 21 hectares, with a total investment of nearly VND 700 billion, comprising four component projects.
Among them, the project on the restoration, expansion, and promotion of the temple itself spans 1.67 hectares, with a total investment of VND 211 billion, fully funded through socialized resources. This reflects the deep sense of responsibility and gratitude of organizations, businesses, individuals, and the community toward the preservation of national heritage. The project was implemented in a systematic and respectful manner, harmoniously combining traditional architectural values with modern conservation techniques to ensure the authenticity, solemnity, and sustainability of the monument.
The inauguration ceremony was held in conjunction with the King Le Thai To Temple Festival, featuring traditional rituals such as the ribbon-cutting ceremony, bell and drum invocation, incense and offering ceremonies by 32 residential quarters of Hoanh Bo ward and the nationwide Le Family Council, as well as a formal ceremonial rite at the temple courtyard. The festive activities included a wide range of folk games, cultural exchanges, calligraphy writing, demonstrations of traditional crafts, displays of ethnic costumes, and exhibitions of local OCOP products.
The inauguration of the temple of King Le Thai To is not only a significant cultural and spiritual event but also a meaningful contribution to honoring national history, fostering the tradition of gratitude toward ancestors, and promoting the sustainable development of local cultural heritage in the new era.
