On July 27, the Government issued Resolution No. 202 approving the dossier for the project to establish Quang Ninh as a centrally governed city.
Under the project, Quang Ninh city will be established on the basis of retaining the current administrative boundaries of Quang Ninh province, with an area of more than 6,231 square kilometres and a population of over 1.5 million. Quang Ninh currently meets all seven criteria required for a centrally governed city status.
Earlier, on July 24, at the third session of the 14th Party Central Committee, the Party Central Committee approved in principle the establishment of Quang Ninh as a centrally governed city.
