On the main festival day, a large number of local residents gathered in the field in front of Coc Communal House to perform the traditional field-going ritual and take part in a rice-planting competition. Along with the traditional rituals, the festive programme featured a wide range of cultural and sporting activities. Deeply rooted in the riverine culture along the historic Bach Dang River, the “Going to the field” Festival is a major community celebration for residents of Ha Nam island. Maintaining the traditional rituals while hosting diverse cultural and sporting activities contributes to preserving local cultural identity, promoting the value of the national intangible cultural heritage, and introducing the land and people of Phong Coc to visitors.
