The opening ceremony of the 36th Quang Ninh Radio and Television Chess Tournament was jointly held by Quang Ninh’s Department of Culture and Sports, Quang Ninh Media Group and Quang Ninh Chess Federation at the 5,000-seat multi-purpose Stadium (Dai Yen ward, Ha Long city) this morning, Dec. 4.
The tournament attracted the participation of nearly 100 athletes from 9 localities including Ha Long, Cam Pha, Quang Yen, Dong Trieu, Mong Cai, Uong Bi, Tien Yen, Hoanh Bo and Cam Pha.
These competitors are supposed to compete in 9-round Swiss system chess and Chinese chess in order to win individual and team prizes.
The annual competition aims to make a proper assessment of the quality of chess training and competition movements in the province. Outstanding chess players will be selected for the provincial team to compete domestically and internationally.
According to organizers, attendants have been offered the best medical conditions as the tournament is taking place during the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic.
As planned, the tournament will last until December 7.
