Vietnam targets welcoming 18 million international tourists by 2026
By 2026, the number of international tourists to Vietnam will reach 18 million, up 20% against 2025, while domestic tourists will number about 85 million, up 13.3%. The country is expected to earn about 800-900 trillion VND from tourism revenue, up 15.5-17.5% against 2025.
These are the goals set by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the Vietnam Tourism Development Program in the 2022-2026 period and submitted to the Prime Minister.
The program includes two phases. In the 2022-2023 period, the country strives to recover about 8-9 million international tourists to Vietnam, equivalent to 45-50% compared 2019; 65-70 million domestic tourists, equivalent to 75-80% compared to 2019 and total revenue from tourists is expected to reach about 400-450 trillion VND, equivalent to 50-55% compared to 2019.
This phase will focus on supporting tourism businesses and communities participating in tourism business to accelerate the recovery.
In the 2024-2026 period, the country will strive to reach about 15-16 million international tourists by 2025, equivalent to 40-45% of the set strategic target; about 75-80 million domestic tourists, equivalent to 60-65% of the strategic target; and total revenue from tourists is expected to reach about 680-780 trillion VND, equivalent to 40-45% of the strategic target.
During this period, priority will be given to mobilizing all resources to promote fast and sustainable tourism development in the “new normal” state.
