Quang Ninh ranks 2nd in PCI rankings
On May 6, the 2024 Annual Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) Report was announced by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Hanoi.
According to VCCI’s 2024 announcement, Quang Ninh’s PCI score reached 73.2 points, an increase of 1.95 points compared to 2023, securing its position in the top group and ranking 2nd among provinces and cities with the best governance quality in 2024.
Leading the PCI rankings this year is Hai Phong city with 74.84 points. The top five also include Long An, Bac Giang, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
Quang Ninh has consistently ranked among the leading provinces nationwide in these indices since 2020. Notably, the province has topped the PCI and SIPAS rankings four times, the PAR Index twice, and achieved the highest national score in PAPI three times.
The 2024 PCI Report highlights positive improvements in efforts to enhance the business environment and promote the private sector, a key driver of Vietnam’s sustainable economic growth.
Despite facing numerous economic challenges, a survey of nearly 11,000 businesses shows that the business community’s confidence in local authorities remains strong. However, the 2024 PCI also points out areas needing improvement, particularly in land access, legal compliance costs, and a decline in the dynamism of local government apparatuses.
The 2024 PCI marks 20 years since the index was first introduced and published in Vietnam. This year is also the last time all 63 provinces and cities are included before administrative unit consolidation and the transition to a two-tier local government model.
