On the morning of September 8 (local time), in The Hague, the Netherlands, a Quang Ninh City delegation led by Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Vu Quyet Tien held a working session with the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands.
At the meeting, Deputy Secretary of Quang Ninh City Party Committee Vu Quyet Tien briefed Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam on Quang Ninh City’s socio-economic development, particularly its development orientations within the new development space following its establishment as a city.
Congratulating Quang Ninh on becoming a city, Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam highly appreciated the city’s vision, innovative thinking and proactive approach to seeking cooperation opportunities for cooperation, investment promotion and international investment attraction. The Ambassador said Vietnam - Netherlands relations are developing increasingly broadly and deeply, while many Dutch businesses are interested in exploring investment and business opportunities in Vietnam. With its advantages in terms of geoeconomic location, infrastructure, seaports, logistics, industry, tourism and the marine economy, Quang Ninh is among the localities with considerable potential to attract capital and technology from the Netherlands.
Also as part of the visit, on the afternoon of September 8, the delegation conducted a field survey of the Maeslantkering storm surge barrier system. Operational since 1997, the Maeslantkering is one of the Netherlands’ well-known water-control and flood-prevention structures.
During the field survey, Deputy Secretary of Quang Ninh City Party Committee Vu Quyet Tien emphasized that studying the Netherlands’ flood-control infrastructure provided practical insights and experience for Quang Ninh in planning drainage systems and applying science and technology to flood prevention and control, thereby contributing to enhancing the city’s urban resilience to the impacts of natural disasters and climate change.
