Quang Ninh city is enhancing its high-end tourism offerings by combining luxury resorts with local culture, natural heritage and unique experiences, giving visitors more opportunities to explore, relax and connect with the destination while enjoying memorable, sustainable travel experiences.
Hotels and resorts across Quang Ninh city have recently moved beyond traditional accommodation services, combining luxury stays with local culture and experiences to encourage visitors to stay longer, spend more and return.
The shift reflects Quang Ninh's broader tourism strategy, which prioritizes green growth, environmental sustainability and the preservation of traditional cultural values while seeking to establish the city as a leading international destination.
Under its long-term development vision, Quang Ninh aims to build a modern, competitive tourism industry that offers distinctive, world-class experiences while contributing to economic growth, community well-being, public safety and national security.
Luxury resorts offer more than accommodation
In Van Don, Centara Hotel & Residences Van Don is tapping into growing demand for luxury coastal vacations that offer more than a place to stay.
Located in the Ao Tien luxury port and tourism complex, the nearly 500-room property is operated by a Thai hotel group. It also serves as a convenient base for travelers exploring Quan Lan, Minh Chau and other nearby island destinations.
Maurizio Susan, General Manager of Centara Hotel & Residences Van Don, said the hotel's two sightseeing boats in Bai Tu Long Bay allow it to combine accommodation with excursions highlighting the area's natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Guests can enjoy local seafood, learn about the historic Van Don trading port and take part in activities tailored to their interests and preferences. The approach, Susan said, turns a hotel stay into a broader travel experience rooted in nature, culture and local identity.
Farther north, in Mong Cai, Tra Co Long Beach Hotel and Resort opened in October 2026, adding another upscale accommodation option to the area. Apart from its lodging services, the resort offers golf, sightseeing, a "Day as a Fisherman" experience and handicraft-making activities, giving visitors more ways to explore the destination. Through the end of the year, the resort plans to step up tourism promotion and target the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions market, commonly known as MICE tourism.
In recent years, Quang Ninh has attracted major international hotel brands, including Accor, InterContinental, Wyndham, Hyatt and Radisson. Their presence has helped expand the city's upscale accommodation offerings in destinations such as Ha Long, Tuan Chau and Yen Tu, improving service standards and attracting travelers with higher spending power.
Cultural preservation at the heart of tourism strategy
Quang Ninh's tourism development strategy emphasizes green and sustainable growth alongside the protection and promotion of traditional cultural heritage.
The city aims to develop a professional, modern tourism industry focused on quality rather than visitor numbers alone, while strengthening its international brand and competitiveness. Central to that vision is the development of diverse, distinctive tourism products built around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay and other natural and cultural attractions.
Rather than relying solely on sightseeing, Quang Ninh wants to offer high-quality experiences that combine its coastal landscapes, cultural traditions, local communities and modern tourism infrastructure.
The strategy also calls for balanced growth in international and domestic tourism, greater private-sector investment and closer cooperation with destinations across the Red River Delta, particularly Hanoi.
Quang Ninh is strengthening partnerships with international airlines, cruise operators and leading tourism groups to make travel more convenient and accessible. With modern infrastructure, world-class resorts and a growing range of premium leisure and entertainment experiences, the city seeks to offer discerning travelers exceptional service, comfort and memorable stays that meet international standards.
Tourism is also expected to remain a key economic driver, supporting sustainable socioeconomic development while contributing to border security, national sovereignty and public order.
Building a more sustainable tourism economy
Quang Ninh is expanding its tourism offerings by combining luxury resorts with nightlife, entertainment, shopping, wellness services and local cultural experiences, giving discerning travelers a wider range of high-quality, personalized experiences that make their stays more enjoyable, enriching and memorable.
In April 2025, the Quang Ninh city People's Committee approved a tourism development plan through 2030, with a vision to 2045, aimed at positioning the city as an international tourism hub. The plan prioritizes world-class resorts and wellness tourism, modern infrastructure, stronger regional and international connections, and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
Mrs. Nguyen Thuy Yen, Deputy Director of the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the success of luxury tourism should be measured not only by visitor numbers but also by average length of stay, tourist spending, repeat visits and contributions to the local economy.
In order to achieve these goals, she emphasized the need for closer cooperation among hotels, tour operators, restaurants, artisans, traditional craft villages and local communities to develop distinctive experiences tailored to different travelers.
By connecting high-end hospitality with local culture and sustainable practices, Quang Ninh aims to attract higher-spending visitors, create more opportunities for local communities and strengthen its position as an internationally competitive destination while delivering lasting economic and social benefits.
