Tourism sector accelerates through year-end stretch

In response to the “90 days and nights of acceleration and breakthrough to fulfil the 2026 targets and tasks” emulation drive, the tourism sector is focusing on tapping the autumn-winter market, diversifying products and improving service quality. This is intended not only to attract more visitors, but also to extend stays and increase tourist spending, as Quang Ninh strives to welcome 23 million tourist arrivals and generate VND 70.3 trillion in tourism revenue for the full year.

In the first nine months of 2026, Quang Ninh is estimated to have welcomed 18.8 million tourist arrivals, up 9.9% year on year. International arrivals reached 4.21 million, an increase of 28% from the same period in 2025. Total tourism revenue stood at VND 56.4 trillion, up 27.38% year on year, while accommodation and food services alone generated VND 26.9 trillion, up 31.8%.

With these results, to achieve the full-year target of 23 million tourist arrivals and VND 70.3 trillion in revenue, Quang Ninh needs to attract around 4.2 million more visitors and generate an additional VND 13.9 trillion in the fourth quarter. This presents considerable pressure during the autumn-winter tourism period and also requires more effective exploitation of resort, cruise, cultural, culinary and shopping products.

Many accommodation establishments continue to receive investment in the high-end segment, combining resort services with exploration experiences while shaping products suited to different visitor segments. In Van Don, Centara Hotel & Residences Van Don has nearly 500 rooms and also operates two sightseeing vessels on Bai Tu Long Bay, extending the visitor journey from accommodation to exploring Quan Lan and Minh Chau, enjoying seafood and learning about the legacy of the ancient Van Don trading port.

Meanwhile, Trà Cổ Long Beach Hotel and Resort, which began operations in October 2026, has added a high-end resort product in Mong Cai, combining golf, sightseeing, the “A Day as a Fisherman” experience and handicraft-making activities. In particular, its proximity to Mong Cai International Border Gate creates favourable conditions for the resort to access the Chinese visitor market and develop holiday programmes linked with local culture and landscapes.

On Ha Long Bay, cruise products are also continuing to receive investment to improve quality and diversify experiences. As the locality with the largest tourism fleet in the country, with around 500 vessels in operation, Quang Ninh is gradually developing a modern and coordinated fleet aimed at serving the high-quality visitor segment. In summer 2026 alone, around three to five high-end vessels, each costing VND 200-300 billion, were put into operation. The new vessels are not merely means of transport, but are also designed with resort and wellness spaces, sports activities, restaurants, hot tubs and a range of modern amenities.

Alongside continued upgrades to infrastructure and high-quality services, the tourism sector is also looking to make greater use of cultural advantages, including promoting the distinctive values of the Yen Tu World Cultural Heritage Site through meditation, cultural and resort experiences. The “Yen Tu - Meditative Autumn Colours” series, running from August through the end of the year, offers experiences such as watching the sunrise from Dong Pagoda, exploring heritage values and cuisine, experiencing the spirit of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism, and discovering evening cultural activities. This is gradually extending Yen Tu’s appeal beyond the traditional festival season at the beginning of the year and moving it towards becoming a year-round destination.

In the mountainous areas of Luc Hon, Hoanh Mo and Binh Lieu, the seasons of golden rice, flowers and white reeds have become reasons for visitors to head to the northeastern mountains in the final months of the year. Beyond admiring the natural scenery, localities are developing deeper experiences of local culture, cuisine, community life and distinctive seasonal activities.

Alongside refreshing tourism products, Quang Ninh maintains its appeal through a year-round series of cultural, sporting and entertainment events. From now until the end of the year, major special arts and cultural programmes will continue, including the Quang Ninh Food Festival and the Binh Lieu Then Festival. Working alongside the city, tourism and service businesses are stepping up stimulus programmes, promotion and market expansion, thereby increasing visitor numbers, stimulating spending and adding value to tourism.

To stimulate demand in the final months of the year, more than 20 three-to-five-star accommodation establishments across the city are offering room discounts of 20% to more than 60%, together with complimentary meals, drinks and wellness services. These measures help businesses attract visitors, but their long-term effectiveness depends on combining incentives with service quality and distinctive, valuable experiences.
