KOICA training course for Vietnamese journalists wrapped up in Korea

As part of  the KOICA Fellowship Program's second phase on “Capacity Enhancement on Implementing Government Policies of the Academy of Journalism & Communication in 2022-2024”, a journalistic training course was held by  Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Seoul between September 13 and 22.

As many as 20 Vietnamese journalists and officials from the Academy of Journalism & Communication, the Central Propaganda and Education Committee, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and several local news publishers including Quang Ninh Media Group, Ha Noi Television, Economic and Urban Newspaper, Thanh Hoa Newspaper, Hoa Binh Newspaper, Bac Ninh Newspaper, Bac Giang Newspaper and Today Experiment Magazine successfully graduated and obtained certificates from KOICA.

Within the framework of the training course, participants were introduced about the implementation of Korean Government policies, big data journalism and big data government, national brand management through public media, the presence and future of the Korean smart media industry, etc.

The Vietnamese delegates also had a field trip at several venues, such as the South Korean Advertisement Museum, the YTN Broadcasting Television, and the South Korean National Culture Museum, etc.

They also accomplished three action plans concerning human resource training in policy-related communication at the Academy of Journalism and Communication, the improvement of human resources for policy-related communication in Vietnam today, and the enhancement of the effectiveness of policy-related communication at Vietnam's local press agencies.

At the closing ceremony, Nguyen Duc Toan, Vice Rector of the Academy of Journalism & Communication, appreciated KOICA's support for the academy in recent years. He underlined that the training program proves effective in improving the capability of Vietnamese reporters, academy lecturers, and managers in policy implementation and expansion of partnership networks with partners.

"The program is well designed and attached with new trends in South Korea and the world, which can be applied in Vietnam," he added.

During the program's first phase (2015-2018), the Vietnamese journalism academy sent 60 officials to South Korea for training, organized four international workshops, and published three books.
