People in Hoanh Bo district has started growing flowers since 1980s. However, the brand name of Hoanh Bo flower has just become popular in recent years.
In recent years, with socio-economic development, the demand for flowers in daily life is increasing. Under the impact of the market economy, the profession of growing flowers is becoming a profitable production.
Though growing flowers has become a traditional profession in Hoanh Bo for years, it could not have brought profit to the locals until 2004. That was when the district government paid much attention to this profession and decided to set up an overall plan to increase the quality and quantity of flowers as well as promote the brand name of Hoanh Bo flowers.
Hoanh Bo district borders Ha Long city and Cam Pha town, the two big localities with dense population and high living standard in Quang Ninh provice. Taking the best use of this geographic advantage, Hoanh Bo has succeeded in taking its flowers to these markets and then other regions in the province. The district is also striving to bring this product to other markets outside the province.
According to the People’s Committee of Hoanh Bo district, flowers are growed in a total area of over 80 hectares by nearly 3000 households across the district.
A series of gardens with different kinds of flowers namely lily, rose, dahlia, gladioluses, chrysanthemums, etc. attracts lots of customers, especially on the first and fifteenth of each lunar month.
At this time when Tet (lunar new year) is coming, many people are flocking to Hoanh Bo not only to buy flowers but also to enjoy the colorful and beautiful spring scenes in many flower gardens.
