Ceremony to announce the establishment of Dong Trieu city
On the evening of January 1, the ceremony to announce the establishment of Dong Trieu city and receive the First Class "Labor Medal" was solemnly held in Quang Ninh province.
Dong Trieu is a land rich in revolutionary traditions, where the great cultural and historical values of the Vietnamese people are preserved. With a strategic location at the western gateway of Quang Ninh province, this is a cultural sedimentary land, where the national spirit converges, closely linked to the origin of the Tran Dynasty.
178 years ago, Dong Trieu marked the birth of the coal mining industry in Vietnam associated with the working class in the mining area, the birthplace of the fourth Tran Hung Dao resistance zone in the period before the August Revolution in 1945. Dong Trieu was where the first Party cell of the mining area was established (February 23, 1930).
After nearly 10 years since its establishment as a town, Dong Trieu has affirmed its position as a dynamically and sustainably developing locality in Quang Ninh province. The local economy achieved an average growth rate of over 14% in the 2020-2024 period. The economic structure has shifted positively, with the industrial-construction and service-commerce sectors accounting for 95.9%, while the agriculture-forestry-fishery sector represents 4.1%. Dong Trieu has consistently been a leading locality in Quang Ninh province in building model new rural areas, with Viet Dan commune recognized as the first model new rural commune in the entire country.
Located as the western gateway to Quang Ninh province, Dong Trieu sits at the heart of a dynamic development triangle and boasts sound connectivity with Red River Delta localities. Over the past years, the city has paid due attention to infrastructure development, completing several important transport projects such as Dong bridge, Trieu bridge, and an approach road to National Highway No.18A connecting with Hai Duong province.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Trieu in particular and Quang Ninh Province in general over the past years.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes that the Party committees, authorities and people of Dong Trieu and Quang Ninh will continue to promote tradition and strive to turn Dong Trieu city into a model, modern, green, clean, beautiful and livable urban area.
"Dong Trieu City and Quang Ninh Province need to continue to make breakthroughs, taking the people's aspirations as a compass, taking innovation as a driving force to go further, and continue to be a bright spot as a model city not only in terms of economy but also in terms of culture and people" - the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.
