Candle-lighting ceremonies honour war heroes, martyrs
The programme “Candle lighting in gratitute of war heroes and martyrs” was also held at all of the cemeteries across the province on July 26 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
The provincial-level memorial services were organized at Dong Trieu town’s Yen Tho Martyrs’ Cemetery, Ha Long city’s Ha Tu Martyrs’ Cemetery, Cam Pha city’s Martyrs’Cemetery, Mong Cai city’s Km 4 Hai Yen Martyrs’ Cemetery.
At the ceremony, attendants offered incense, flowers and lighted candles at martyrs’ tombs.
Gifts were also presented to Vietnamese heroic mothers, war invalids and policy beneficiary families in the province.
These activities aim to raise young inhabitants’ awareness about the heroic sacrifice of preceding generations in the cause of national liberation as well as highlight their significant role in national construction and defense.
In 1947, President Ho Chi Minh designated July 27 as national War Invalids Day, which was later renamed War Invalids and Martyrs Day, to call on society to honor and support war invalids and martyrs’ families in acknowledgement of their contributions to the nation. Over the years, caring for national contributors and their relatives has been strongly supported by agencies, sectors, social organizations and the whole community.
