A beautiful ecological zone at the foot of Yen Tu

The landscapes and cultural features of Thuong Yen Cong commune are considered as potential for Uong Bi city to set the goal of building and developing this area into an ecological tourism destination at the foot of Yen Tu.

"We still preserve the villages and hamlets of the Dao ethnic people, their writing, the ancient Dao language, traditional embroidery and sewing crafts, old love duets and folk song. On wedding ceremonies and village festivals, local people still prepare traditional meals, and play folk games like "nem con" (throwing a ball) and "day gay" (wrestling), etc. Despite the fact that some of these customs have faded over time,  we still have the opportunity to restore and develop them when the cultural foundation is still preserved like this", said Bui Thi Kim Thuy, Party Secretary of Thuong Yen Cong Commune.

Under the tourism development plan of Thuong Yen Cong Commune, the area will feature ecological tourism with the natural landscapes of Khe Song - Thac Bac, a Dao cultural house in several Dao-majority villages, a Dao cultural and artistic performance team, restaurants serving Dao cuisine and traditional herbal health treatments, local markets or traditional markets of the indigenous people, native apricot groves, and traditional apricot wine production models.

The authorities and locals have collected and restored both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, built the cultural house of Khe Su II village with a view to develoing community-based tourism models in the area.

The Thanh Y Dao cultural space exhibition house opened at Khe Su II village in August 2024, featuring 5 cultural spaces: an exhibition space for the traditional male and female costumes of the Thanh Y Dao ethnic group. There are also some other exihibition areas introducing the general rituals of the Thanh Y Dao ethnic group, a model of the Thanh Y Dao’s “trinh tuong” house, an exhibition space displaying the Thanh Y Dao’s kitchen corner, and a space displaying images and artifacts related to the daily life, activities, and culture of the Thanh Y Dao people.

The Thanh Y Dao community cooperative, invested by Ms. Truong Thi Thanh Huong, has emerged as a well-known community-based tourism model. Visitors can enjoy amusing services such as Thanh Y Dao cuisine, herbal foot baths, herbal baths, cultural and artistic performances, and community sports activities based on tourists' needs.

Thuong Yen Cong Commune is calling for investment into some projects such as building gardens and fruit tree forests to create scenic landscapes, with a focus on apricot forests and citrus trees, establishing a Dao cultural performance team, and further improving the landscape of the Thanh Y Dao Cultural Space Exhibition House in Khe Su II village, featuring stone walls, stone gates, and the 'trinh tuong' house.

The Thanh Y Dao Cultural Space Exhibition House monthly hosts cultural exchanges and culinary events to serve the needs of the local people and later to develop cultural products that attract tourists.

In March 2025, the commune will organize the Dao Ethnic Culture Festival, which will include cultural exchanges, sports activities, and culinary events held at night, becoming a tourism product for the commune.
