Bai Tu Long National Park, Van Don district has just received the certificate of recognition as "Vietnam Heritage Trees" for 156 precious and old trees.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, President of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, presented the Certificate of Heritage Tree Recognition to the Management Board of Bai Tu Long National Park.

Bai Tu Long National Park covers a total area of 15,783 hectares and features six distinctive ecosystems. It is home to 2,421 species of organisms, including 106 species listed in the IUCN Red List and the Vietnam Red Book.

In Decisions No. 443/QĐ-HMTg and No. 444/QĐ-HMTg dated December 16, 2024, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment recognized the following as Vietnam Heritage Trees: a population of 150 Trâm Mốc trees on Minh Chau Island, three Trâm Vỏ Đỏ trees in Subdivision 201 on Ba Mun Island, and three Trai Lý trees in Subdivision 201 on Mang Ha Nam Island.

The delegates visited and inspected the current condition of the Trâm Mốc forest on Minh Chau island, which now consists of more than 2,000 trees.

These trees meet the criteria of being ancient, majestic in size and appearance, or possessing exceptional value in terms of science, history, culture, or aesthetics. The recognition of those heritage trees aims to raise awareness about tree protection and biodiversity conservation within local communities, while also contributing to tourism potential and promoting the image of the region.

Previously, Quang Ninh province had 162 trees recognized as Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment. This achievement is the result of efforts to implement Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU dated October 30, 2023, by the Provincial Party Committee, aimed at building and promoting the cultural values and strengths of the people of Quang Ninh as an intrinsic resource and a driving force for rapid and sustainable development.
