When the “low season” becomes a season of experiences

Autumn-winter tourism is no longer a quiet period after the summer peak. Starting with attractive flagship products, Quang Ninh is connecting accommodation, cuisine, culture, sports and wellness into more complete journeys, gradually turning the “low season” into a distinctive season of experiences.

Visitors enjoy the scenery and trek through Yen Tu as part of the 2026 Yen Tu - Meditative Autumn Colours programme.

This approach can be seen clearly in Yen Tu. While spring is associated with pilgrimages and festivals, the “Yen Tu - Meditative Autumn Colours” programme has been developed as a series of activities running from August to December, creating a distinctive autumn-winter tourism product and extending visitors’ stays. Visitors can go cloud hunting, practise meditation and yoga, explore heritage, enjoy the “Dieu Am Yen Tu” performance, vegetarian cuisine and Dao Thanh Y culture, alongside the Ultra Trail and Yen Tu Heritage Marathon.

From Yen Tu, the development of new tourism products can also be seen in Ha Long. The three-panel sailing boat, launched on June 29, is one such experiment. According to Ngo Duy Ninh, a representative of Vietnam Sightseeing Joint Stock Company in Quang Ninh, the product has so far served around 1,500-1,600 visitors, including a certain number of international tourists. To increase its appeal, the experience needs to be connected with museums, coastal check-in spots, cuisine, tourist buses and night streets rather than operating as a stand-alone product.

Traditional three-pannel sailing boat tours of Ha Long Bay attract visitors during the autumn-winter season.

Building on these specific products, Quang Ninh’s autumn-winter tourism stimulus programme offers a broader range of experiences. The plan identifies the period from October through the end of the year as the programme’s second peak phase, linked with the anniversary of the city’s establishment, the year-end festive season, Christmas and New Year. Alongside accommodation, sightseeing, dining and transport packages is the “Ha Long Bay - Yen Tu Heritage Passport” programme, connecting products and destinations associated with the World Heritage sites of Ha Long Bay and Yen Tu, as well as Bach Dang, Quang Ninh Museum and traditional craft villages, from the autumn-winter season through the end of 2026.

In the city centre, the Halo Bay Show, VuiFest, regular fireworks displays, Vietnam - Guangxi exchange venue and the year-end Countdown add further activities. As a result, autumn-winter visitors come not only for the sea, but also for races, festivals, cuisine, heritage and night-time experiences.

From these flagship products, the direction is becoming clearer: create a reason to come, then connect experiences to create a reason to stay. When destinations participate in a complete product chain, autumn and winter will no longer simply follow the summer season, but become a distinctive tourism season with strong appeal.
