Digital transformation is changing the way visitors seek information, choose services and experience tourism. In Quang Ninh, the application of technology not only enhances tourism promotion but also helps connect services, improve visitor convenience and enable businesses to offer better-quality services.
Quang Ninh is gradually integrating technology into tourism management, promotion and service delivery. E-tickets, digital maps, online payments and other digital services make it easier for visitors to find information, book services and plan their own itineraries.
To improve visitors’ access to information and services, Bai Chay Ward has developed and launched a smart tourism website and app, providing information on destinations, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment and leisure activities. In addition, six free wi-fi hotspots have been installed, along with three additional mobile network stations, to improve connectivity.
At tourist attractions, tourism businesses and service providers have also proactively adopted technology in their management and operations, with a focus on meeting visitors’ needs. At Sun World Ha Long Park, digital applications have been integrated throughout the visitor journey, from ticket sales and payment to visitor guidance. Visitors can book tickets online, use internationally accepted electronic payment methods and pass through access gates equipped with facial recognition technology, reducing waiting times. The Sun Paradise Land app also allows visitors to access maps, locate entertainment facilities and plan their itineraries.
At Yen Tu, visitors can scan QR codes to access information, book tickets and make online payments. Services such as electric shuttle transport, accommodation and dining are also being gradually integrated. Meanwhile, the Ha Long Bay – Yen Tu World Heritage Site Management Board is piloting AI-powered cameras to support monitoring, visitor flow management and safety. E-ticketing data also enables the management board to track visitor numbers and proactively manage arrivals.
To ensure tangible results from digital transformation, Quang Ninh is focusing on developing a smart tourism ecosystem based on shared data, with stronger connections among destinations and service providers. Information on accommodation, transport, restaurants, sightseeing tickets and experiential activities is being standardised and regularly updated. Businesses are also encouraged to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in visitor assistance, itinerary recommendations and customer care, while expanding the digitisation of archival materials, maps and multilingual interpretation services at heritage sites. Workforce training, improved digital skills and data security are also key priorities.
Digital transformation is making tourism management more efficient and services more convenient, while opening up new ways for destinations and tourism products to engage visitors. Better integration of data, services and tourist attractions will provide a foundation for Quang Ninh to strengthen its competitiveness, enhance visitor experiences and encourage repeat visits.
