Quang Ninh city hosted an investment, trade and tourism promotion conference with Indonesia on Thursday, seeking to expand economic cooperation and strengthen business connections between the two sides.
Held as part of the Meet Indonesia 2026 program in Quang Ninh, the conference showcased the city's investment climate, infrastructure and opportunities in trade and tourism. It also provided a platform for government agencies, business associations, companies and investors to explore practical, mutually beneficial and sustainable partnerships.
The Indonesian delegation included Mr. Ahmad Luthfi, Governor of Central Java province, and Mr. Adam Mulawarman Tugio, Indonesia's Ambassador to Vietnam, along with representatives of Indonesian agencies, organizations, business associations and investors.
Quang Ninh was represented by Mr. Le Van Anh, Vice chairman of the city's People's Committee, and officials from local departments, agencies, associations and businesses.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Le Van Anh highlighted the longstanding friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia, saying their relationship had continued to deepen over the years.
He said the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2025 marked an important milestone in diplomatic relations and created new opportunities for cooperation between local governments and businesses.
Within that broader partnership, Quang Ninh regards Indonesia as a key strategic partner in ASEAN, with considerable potential for closer cooperation.
With its expanding expressway network, seaports, international airport and well-developed economic and industrial zones, Quang Ninh is seeking Indonesian investment in high-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, the digital economy, logistics and marine industries.
The city pledged to support investors by streamlining administrative procedures, facilitating access to project sites and helping businesses meet other requirements for project implementation.
On trade, Quang Ninh proposed stronger import-export links for products in which each side has a competitive advantage. It also called for cooperation in agricultural, seafood and food supply chains, particularly in developing halal-certified products for Muslim-majority markets.
In tourism, the city encouraged travel associations and operators from both countries to develop new tour packages and routes. It also proposed exploring charter services and direct flights connecting Indonesia with Van Don International Airport to facilitate travel and increase visitor exchanges.
Anh reaffirmed the city's commitment to supporting businesses, saying Quang Ninh viewed the success and long-term prosperity of Indonesian investors as an integral part of its own development.
During the conference, participants received presentations on Quang Ninh's economic strengths, investment environment, tourism potential and industrial park infrastructure, as well as opportunities offered by Indonesia's Central Java province.
Discussions focused on investment incentives, administrative procedures and ways to strengthen tourism market connections.
The event also featured the signing of three memorandums of understanding between Vietnamese and Indonesian universities.
The agreements were signed between Quang Ninh University of Industry and Dian Nuswantoro University; Quang Ninh University of Industry and Pertamina University; and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur.
The agreements aim to promote faculty and student exchanges, strengthen joint research and improve the quality of workforce training. They are also expected to support longer-term cooperation between Quang Ninh and Indonesian partners.
The memorandums provide a framework for the universities to turn their shared commitments into concrete programs and activities.
Quang Ninh authorities pledged to work closely with the institutions, provide necessary assistance and help ensure the effective implementation of the agreements.
The Meet Indonesia 2026 conference will continue on Oct. 30, bringing together ministries, local authorities and businesses from Vietnam and Indonesia to explore further opportunities for cooperation.
