Apart from free wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) signals along pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem (Sword) lake and adjacent areas provided by the Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group (VNPT), subscribers can now enjoy free Wi-Fi in 17 public locations such as My Dinh and Nuoc Ngam bus stations from Viettel.

This year, it is said that around 100 main festivals will be held in 19 localities, 10 of which are expected to gather over 10,000 people like Thu Thiem tunnel fireworks (Ho Chi Minh city), Moc Chau love market in northern Son La province, boat racing in Central Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces, and parks/zoos/entertainment centres in the capital Hanoi.

Service providers forecast that network data demand would increase about 40% during the holidays, thus requiring them to actively prepare.

For Viettel alone, it has upgraded nearly 1,300 base transceiver station (BTS), as well as being ready to provide mobile BTS in crowded areas, with 150 special antennas for doubling the operation of a normal BTS.

Technical staff and other relevant units at the above district level are on duty 24 hours a day.
