Vietnam stops licensing to exploit natural resources

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has recently asked involved ministries and localities to stop granting new licenses from August 31st, 2011 to exploit mineral resources nationwide.

Accordingly, the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment was asked to survey and submit reports on the granting of licenses to exploit natural resources and suggest measures to further improve natural resources exploitation management.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry was assigned to report to the Prime Minister the real situation of mining, processing and exports of individual minerals and give suggestions on better management of mineral processing and exporting.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Construction must draw up a factual picture of exploiting, processing and exporting natural resources for building material production and recommend policies to tighten the management.  

The ministries are expected to submit the reports the Prime Minister at the monthly governmental conference in September.
