VietJet Air launches Ho Chi Minh city - Van Don air route

The first flight of Vietjet Air (Vietjet) numbered VN A636 carrying 172 passengers from Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh city landed the International Airport of Van Don at 11.30am on January 20.

Vietjet is the first airline in Vietnam to operate under a new-generation aviation model, offering low and flexible costs and having market shares accounted for neary 50 percent in comparision with other domesic airlines. Vietjet also becomes the official member of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA). In October 2018, this carrier was awarded the highest ranking for safety with 7-stars from the world's only safety and product rating agency AirlineRatings.

Apart from traditional routes, Vietjet sets a target of expanding and developing the market across Asia-Pacific. In the meanwhile, the carrier has continued to invest in new, modern and luxury plane so as to meet the demand for the continuing development of air transportation. Quang Ninh is defined as a market of great potential with the increasing number of passengers.

After this event, Vietjet will operate 4 two-way routes per week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and one more route will be added since February 21. The duration of each flight will be around 135 minutes.

In detail, a flight departs at 7am at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh city and lands on Van Don international airport in Quang Ninh province at 9.15am. The return ones takes off at 9.50 at Van Don international airport and touched down Tan Son Nhat airport at 12.5am. Two types of planes including 180 seat Airbus Industrie A320 and 230 seat Airbus Industrie A321. As the airlines offers opening promotion program, tickets for the categrory number 5 (or the longest domestic route) cost from 0 to VND 900,000 (excluded tax and fee).

In addtion. the province also offers  free return buses from Van Don to Cam Pha, Ha Long,  and provides passengers with free entrance the world heritage site Ha Long Bay and Yen Tu national special relic site. SunGroup also the passengers of Van Don International Airport  with 20-50 % off tickets to Sunworld Ha Long recreational park.

Vietjet is the second airline after Vietnam Airlines to operate air routes at Van Don international airport. According to statistics, approximately 5,000 passengers have used flights through the airport on Quang Ninh-Hochiminh city flight and vice versa since the opening day of this new airport. Additionally, nearly 500 passengers will travel to two round-trip flights per day since January 20.

Bamboo Airways is also planning to operate their air routes at Van Don international airport in the first quarter of 2019. Vietnam Airlines have worked closely with Korea-based HaNa Tour Company to open a direct air route from Van Don to South Korea. Donghai Airlines from China is scheduled to launch a route from Bao An airport in the province of Shenzhen to Van Don on January 28 with the frequence of three flights per week.
