The information was released at a meeting chaired by Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long on Feb. 26 in Ha Long city, regarding the socio-economic performance in February and the key tasks set for March.
Addressing the conference, Quang Ninh’s Chairman Nguyen Duc Long hailed positive changes made in only the two first months of the year. The total income from services and retailing is estimated to increase by 15.4% over the same period last year while the revenue in transport was 16.4%; the province greeted 2.7 million tourist arrivals in the two first months, a year-on-year rise of 10%, earning a total tourism revenue of VND4,900 billion, up 25% compared with the same period last year.
Also in February, progress of some of the key construction works was sped up and social welfare was paid with much attention in order to encourage poor families on the occasion of Tet holiday, which falls on the month. A variety of cultural activities welcoming the new year were held, bringing the people provincewide a happy atmostphere when the spring comes; security and transport safety were ensured during and after the Tet.
Focusing on the tasks in March, Quang Ninh’s Chairman Nguyen Duc Long asked all the provincial sectors and departments to accelerate the economic growth rate to ensure an increase of 10.1-10.5% in the GRDP index; speed up the progress of projects with the State and extra-budgetary resources, as well as the projects conducted in the economic zones in Van Don district and Quang Yen town.
Notably, the 80.2km Van Don – Mong Cai expressway that has a total investment of over VND11.195 trillion (US$486.7 million), with four lanes and is designed for average speeds of 100km per hour, is planned to open in March. The expressway is among a series of infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the tourism industry.
The project is hoped to improve the province’s transport infrastructure system, thus contributing to the local socio-economic development and promoting local tourism and border- and marine-economic potential.
