The Airport Quality Management Program (AQMP) has recognized Van Don International Airport as one of the 5 best service airports with the highest points in the first quarter of 2019. The survey was conducted in 47 airports worldwide where Vietnam Airlines is exploiting airroutes, based on the index of the U.K Skytrax airline and airport rating agency.
Other international airports in the list include Fukuoka Airport (Japan), Sydney Airport (Australia), Gao Xiong and Taoyuan International Airports (Taiwan).
Accordingly, Van Don International Airport got 78 AQMP points, the highest points among the Vietnam’s aiports under the survey and ranked the 5th position. The evaluation criteria include the reflex indicator points, abnormal baggage performance points, safety target points and OTP target points… In which, the reflex target points rated by customers account for the highest proportion in the grading structure with general survey and assessment items of check-in procedures and instruction for passengers. This is also the group of points showing that Van Don International Airport receives high level of passengers’ satisfaction, with an average point of 80.
In the first quarter of 2019, Van Don International Airport greeted 328 flights provided by Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Bamboo Airways with around 40,000 passenger arrivals.
As scheduled, Van Don Airport will connect with Thailand, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan to open more direct flights. On May 27, the first flight which departs from China’s Shenzhen city to Van Don International Airport will be officially launched, which is expected to attract the first international arrivals to Vietnam in general and Quang Ninh in particular via the airport.
Officially opening on 30 December 2018, Van Don International Airport is the first privately-invested airport in Vietnam under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) form at a cost of over VND7,500 billion. Since its operation, Van Don International Airport has demonstrated its important role in Quang Ninh transport infrastructure, acting as the driving force and a vital transport gateway connecting Vietnam’s Quang Ninh to the region and the world. It has attracted a variety airlines and travel agencies to launch routes and flights, bringing more and more tourists to Ha Long Bay, resulting 6.6 million arrivals to the localtity in the first four months of the year.
As a grade 4E airport in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and a military airfield level 2, Van Don International Airport is capable of accommodating large aircrafts in the world. It contains one terminal with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers and 10,000 cargo tons per year in the first phase and 5 million passengers per year by 2030. In the upcoming time, remaining airport’s components will be completed to offer more “ecologial experiences” to passengers, and develop the airport to be on par with the world’s most modern airports.
