According to the planning on air transport development, Vietnam will have 26 airports by 2020. Also, under this planning, 6 airports for airplanes serving airline taxi, search and rescue activities, medical service and tourism.

Also under this planning, among 6 provinces, namely: Lai Chau, Kon Tum, Thanh Hoa, An Giang, Phan Thiet and Quang Tri, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam has reported to the Ministry of Transport that to date location of the airports in 5 provinces have been planned .
The plan for Phan Thiet airport will be completed in the coming time.
