On July 19, Quang Ninh’s Chairman Nguyen Van Thang, chaired a meeting regarding the proposal on Quang Ninh’s partnership with Clipper Round the World Race 2019-2020; hosting the 2021-2022 race and joining the race in UK in Sept, 2019.
At the meeting, Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism, Pham Ngoc Thuy made a report on media effects of hosting Clipper Race, current status of Quang Ninh’s infrastructure and funding for the implementation of this event. The Department of Tourism suggested that the Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) should contact the organizer, make a plan for renting yachts for 2019-2020 race and submitting to be a hosting port for 2021-2022 race. The department also asked relevant departments and agencies to deploy specific tasks.
Speaking at the meeting, representatives of the relevant provincial departments and agencies came to a consensus on hosting the 2021-2022 race and attending the 2019-2020 race.
Concluding the meeting, Quang Ninh’s Chairman affirmed that the hosting of the race will foster the promotion of Ha Long – Quang Ninh destination, especially to tourists in developing countries. Quang Ninh aims to join the race annually.
Clipper Race has been held for more than 20 years. The around-the-world race, stopping by huge ports, lasts in 11 months with the attendance of about 70 crews.
