As planned, the Quang Ninh International Airport will be completed and open to welcome the first flight by November, 2017. This is one of the key dynamic projects of Quang Ninh, helping develop Van Don district into a special economic zone. In order to ensure project progress as scheduled, all components of the project are being sped up to complete.
With a total investment of nearly VND7.5 trillion (US$331.7 million) for the first phase of construction, Quang Ninh Airport covers an area of 285ha in Doan Ket Commune, Van Don district. The project costs nearly VND7.5 trillion (US$335 million) including VND5.26 trillion (US$234.8 million) for construction and equipment; and VND734 billion (US$32.8 million) for site clearance. The BOT project is invested by Sun Group.
The airport will have runways 3,000m x 45m in size to allow the operation of long-range and wide-body Boeing 777s.
Upon its completion, the airport with an annual capacity of more than six million passengers, includes 3.8-kilometer-long runway to accommodate large aircraft including Boeing 747s. By 2026, the second runway will be built to allow the operation of the Airbus A380.
The project will help complete the infrastructure network in the province and attract more investment, promoting socio-economic development in Quang Ninh and the key northern economic region.
