Quang Ninh has considered environmental protection one of the key tasks in developing its economy.
Since 2003, the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment has given consultancy to the provincial People’s Committee to adopt 482 reports on environmental influence, and 111 projects on environmental protection; recognised 365 registration reports on environmental standards; and dedicated over VND477 billion for improving the environment – the highest amount of the country.
During the implementation of the Prime Minister’s decision on treating seriously polluted sites, as of late 2011, all of the 7 seriously polluted sites were dealt with.
The province has built up a plan for the management of solid waste, while the collection and treatment of daily waste has been increased in residential areas and at sea.
In addition, the Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has increased the management of production, in combination of environmental protection.
Besides, the board on building new style rural areas has provided 15% of the capital for realising environmental protection, putting into operation teams collecting and treating waste, building water sewerage works and dealing with environmental pollution in communes and residential areas.
