Aquaculture not only plays a vital role as a pillar of Quang Ninh’s agricultural and environmental sector, but it also serves as a core livelihood affirming the locality's marine economic strengths. The city has currently accelerated the progress of allocating marine water surfaces to organizations and local residents.
According to statistics, the city has handed over marine surface areas to 57 organizations, covering a total scale of 4,692.19 hectares. At the grassroots level, authorities across communes, wards, and special zones have allocated 540.66 hectares of water surface to 830 individual fish and shellfish farming households.
A review shows that 52 out of the 57 facilities under provincial management are operating stably, while the remaining 5 facilities are in the preparation stage due to recently receiving their permits. Notably, 22 facilities that received marine allocation decisions between September 2025 and January 2026 have registered a projected output exceeding 12,700 tons.
Mariculture activities are heavily concentrated in key hubs such as Van Don Special Zone, Dam Ha commune, Cai Chien commune, and Cam Pha ward, focusing primarily on high-value species including oysters, clams, and marine fish.
As planned, Quang Ninh city will continue urging authorities at all levels to accelerate the pace of marine surface allocations, aiming toward the goal of expanding mariculture areas by an additional 9,117 hectares by 2030, thereby linking marine economic development with environmental protection and long-term livelihoods for the people.
